* Fitness levels up, anger down after exercise

Overweight kids are more likely both to be bullies and to be the target of bullies, but starting an exercise program can not only help them shape up, it may also make them less angry. Researchers at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta found that anger levels decreased in groups of overweight kids ages 7 to 11 who exercised either 20 or 40 minutes daily for 10 to 15 weeks. But the more the kids exercised the lower their expressions of anger. The report in the journal Pediatric Exercise Science says there are many reasons aggression might have gone down, including increased self-control, getting more attention from program staff, being punished for bad behavior or even watching less television, as well as the exercise itself.

* It's a Myth...
Research shows that drinking warm or cold water when exercising does not make a difference. I have found that some research suggests that the cooler water helps to decrease the body temperature back to a normal state more rapidly, but most articles basically state the temperature of water is... a personal preference.

*Hydrogenation
Hydrogenation is the process of heating an oil and passing hydrogen bubbles through it. The fatty acids in the oil then acquire some of the hydrogen, which makes it more dense. If you fully hydrogenate, you create a solid (a fat) out of the oil. But if you stop part way, you a semi-solid partially hydrogenated oil that has a consistency like butter, only it's a lot cheaper.

Worse, most partially hydrogenated oil is partially hydrogenated soybean oil. That's a problem, because soybean oil depresses the thyroid--which lowers your energy levels, makes you feel less like exercising, and generally makes you fatter!

As a result, Americans are consuming soybean oil--partially hydrogenated soybean oil--in virtually everything they eat. It's no wonder that America is experiencing epidemic levels of diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and cancer.

*Avoiding Hydrogenation
When you start reading food labels, it is astonishing how many products you will find that contain partially hydrogenated oils. In the chip aisle, there are maybe two brands that don't" Lay's Classic Potato Chips (not their other brands), and Laura Scudders chips. Most every other package on the shelf does.

Then there are the cookies and crackers. Most every single one does. About the only cookie that doesn't is Paul Neuman's fig newtons or Newman-Os (very similar to Oreos). Among peanut butters, the all-natural brands (Adams and Laura Scudders) don't. All the rest seem to.

*Harness the power of vitamin D
Medical journals have had many recent studies indicating that vitamin D fights cancer.  A study by Creighton University School of Medicine found that by getting plenty of vitamin D could cut the risk of any cancer by 60% or more. - Dr. Ted Mitchell (USA Weekend, Sept. 28-30, 2007)
